Challenge: Fans of the band wanted an easy way to buy ticket to their their concerts
Solution: Build an app that will alert users of upcoming concerts, allow them to select their seats in the venue and buy tickets
Summary: I was tasked with creating a ticketing app for a band in Dubai. They wanted their fans to be able to reserve seats, find information on the venue and view program details. As the UX researcher and designer, I took this app from it’s initial concept to the finish line.
Duration: 4 weeks
Software: Figma
After gathering participants who have previous attended concerts, I spoke with them about some of their pain points. The following is a summary of the most commonly listed pain points.
Users want an easy way to buy tickets to concerts
Users want info on the venue, so they can plan their trip to the concert
Users want to be notified of upcoming concerts and events
Users want an easy way to select their seats in the concert
I had created a few personas for this app, just to get an idea of what the user journey would look like. Here’s an example user journey for one of my personas, a 60 year old retiree.
It was time to brainstorm. I did a variety of exercises, my favorite being the crazy eight exercise. I got some ideas on paper, (example below), and decided on the elements that would work best for the users I had in mind.
An example of the LoFi Prototype I created after finishing the wireframes.
It was time for the next part of the process. Creating the mockups, so I could get a real feel of how the final product would look like.
Finally, it was time to put it all together and get in touch with the usability participants to see what they thought of the final product.
I completed a final usability study to determine what participants thought of the final product. Feedback was overall positive, but a few issues came to light, including certain accessibility options that were missing, most notably, the option for other languages. Additionally, future revisions to the app would need to show a complete map of the venue and seating options in relation to the venue.
This app was quite useful in that I learned the importance of doing thorough user research. My idea of the app, in comparison to the final product, would have been a lot different. Consequently, it would have had limited use to the users I had originally been targeting.
